iPad has shipped!

posted by The Tech Buzz on Mar.29, 2010, under News

Everyone that woke up early on March 12th, pre-order day for apples latest innovation, the iPad was pleasantly surprised this morning to see and learn that apple has shipped the units via UPS. Apple has promised that if your in an area where UPS delivers on Saturdays then you will receive your iPad on the 3rd. If not then you will have to wait until Monday April 5th. Now with all of the hype and coverage surrounding the iPad, I was one that pre-ordered on March 12th and already received my delivery tracking number. I’m hoping that mine will be delivered on Saturday April 3rd so I can do a live un-boxing of it and a full Saturday show surrounding it. My biggest question through all of this is why would apple have a Saturday delivery date? I mean, those of us who have pre-ordered the device should have priority right? We spent the money up front before touching it. We should be guaranteed it on launch day period! My main objective to pre-ordering this device was strictly for journalistic purposes. If I wasn’t going to be one to get it on the 3rd I would have taken my chances at an in store purchase. I think apple needs to re-think their policies about pre-order shipments. If folks pre-order devices and don’t receive them on the scheduled release date, then why should they pre-order? As a bonus to those that pre-order we should receive the product 2-3 days prior to the general public because we pre-ordered. What do you guys think? Please leave your comments about your thoughts on this matter whether you like the iPad or you don’t care. This is about principle. Until next time, Keep it buzzin’

Archos 5 Internet Tablet Review

With the rise of the tablet on the horizon it was only fitting that I pick up one to try and use for my needs. But I wanted something that was different. Not something with a traditional operating system. I picked up the Archos 5 with the android operating system (which you can’t put other OS’s on it) and I have to say my initial response was, “WOW.” I will place the specs down below my review for you to take a look at. I’ve often wondered what kind of functionality and place a touchscreen tablet device would have in my world. Not so much the IT field or computer repair. But my world. I’ve found at first that I could easily replace my iPhone for a cheap no name phone that simply makes phone calls and carry around the Archos 5 for everything else. But why carry two devices? I’ve heard people using the iPhone for everything and from, videos, music, and even remote support, which sounds unreal simply because the iPhone only has a 3.5″ screen. Where the Archos 5 has a High resolution screen, 800×480 pixels, 4.8” TFT LCD, 16 million colors. How does that even compare to the iPhone? At first launch the Archos 5 has a down fall. Unable to work in a Mac OS X environment which is bad because that’s pre-dominetly my main operating system. (continue reading…)
