Hackintosh Wifi
posted by The Tech Buzz on Feb.22, 2010, under News
Hey guys, I recently acquired an Acer Aspire One 10.1″ netbook from craigslist on a trade. So naturally those of you out there know me, I hackintoshed it. Now first off I used the distro iDeneb v3 or 10.5.6. After installing this, my sound didn’t work out of the box nor my wifi. That wasn’t a problem. I managed to find the kexts for my sound online. But the wifi was the problem. I searched everywhere and everyone said it’s not going to work with the installed Atheros AR5007 card. I would have to buy a dell mini 9 card to put into it. I said no way. There has to be a way. In fact there was. First off I changed my version number of OS X from 10.5.6 to 10.5.5 using the version.plist file inside Hardrive/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist. I copied it to my desktop. Changed the permissions to read/write on the one in the location. Inside the text file changed to 10.5.5, saved, and over wrote the existing one.

What is pogoplug you may be asking? The Pogoplug connects your USB drive to the Internet so you can easily share and access your files from anywhere. The Pogoplug is the perfect accessory to your connected life. Imagine accessing all your files and media at home from any laptop or desktop computer, anywhere in the world, or sharing this content with friends and family without having to upload. There’s even an iPhone application so you can always “phone home” to get your files! That’s how the website defines the Pogoplug. It’s all that and a then some. I finally have a way to connect files with family without spending ungodly amounts of money. Priced at $129 the Pogoplug is a great investment and is easy to setup. The plastic frame is very durable. The Pogoplug allows you to connect up to 4 drives with its built in USB ports and even more if you use a USB hub. Setup is a breeze if you know how to connect an ethernet port to your router and plug something in. Then you simply go to the website and activate your Pogoplug online. They even have desktop applications that add the Pogoplug to your Finder if your using mac and explorer if your using Windows. They also provide a free iPhone app to take your files on the go. If your looking for a cheap solution for sending and sharing files with family, or if you just need to stay connected to your files while you are on the road, Pogoplug is for you! If I could change something about the Pogoplug it would have to be the color. Pink, clear and white make you want to hide this unit in your network array. As someone who tries to keep a black and silver color pattern, this just stands out like a sore thumb. Until next time, Keep it Buzzin’

What are social networks? That’s a commonly asked question. Believe it or not people are just finding facebook and myspace and think that social networking is limited to these sites. What is social networking you ask? Social networking is a service of online communities who gather and mingle based upon similar interests, activities, and or business. The foundation is interaction. If you don’t interact, you will not be active in a social network and people will not talk to you.
