48 hour iPad review
posted by The Tech Buzz on Apr.06, 2010, under New Products
I’ve seen a lot of reviews that are out on the internet right now about the iPad. Everything from this is the best thing since sliced bread, to people who have never touched it say it’s junk! I always find it fascinating how people who don’t own a product or know anything about it can voice such a strong opinion then call it un-bias. Anyways, I’m approaching this from both a consumer and techie stand point. First off lets get a few questions answered right off the bat.
Question 1: Will this replace my current macbook or macbook pro as a main notebook device? Answer: In short… NO! It will not. Although the iPad has a very intuitive interface as well as a “great solid feel” it’s not a replacement for your laptop. Whether your a mac or a pc. Pardon the pun. I could see this being a replacement ONLY for a netbook. For this simple fact. A netbook is mainly used for internet consumption, email, social networking, casual gaming (web games, built in games) and minor word processing. As does the iPad. So why not buy a netbook and get a full blown operating system out of the deal you ask? Apple is providing a device like the android operating system to provide users, use-ability. A simple process to install apps/programs to get the job done. A maintenance free operating system. A ” the way you think” device. That’s the best way I can explain it.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet Review
posted by The Tech Buzz on Jan.15, 2010, under New Products
With the rise of the tablet on the horizon it was only fitting that I pick up one to try and use for my needs. But I wanted something that was different. Not something with a traditional operating system. I picked up the Archos 5 with the android operating system (which you can’t put other OS’s on it) and I have to say my initial response was, “WOW.” I will place the specs down below my review for you to take a look at. I’ve often wondered what kind of functionality and place a touchscreen tablet device would have in my world. Not so much the IT field or computer repair. But my world. I’ve found at first that I could easily replace my iPhone for a cheap no name phone that simply makes phone calls and carry around the Archos 5 for everything else. But why carry two devices? I’ve heard people using the iPhone for everything and from, videos, music, and even remote support, which sounds unreal simply because the iPhone only has a 3.5″ screen. Where the Archos 5 has a High resolution screen, 800×480 pixels, 4.8” TFT LCD, 16 million colors. How does that even compare to the iPhone? At first launch the Archos 5 has a down fall. Unable to work in a Mac OS X environment which is bad because that’s pre-dominetly my main operating system. (continue reading…)
PogoPlug Review
posted by The Tech Buzz on Jan.15, 2010, under New Products
What is pogoplug you may be asking? The Pogoplug connects your USB drive to the Internet so you can easily share and access your files from anywhere. The Pogoplug is the perfect accessory to your connected life. Imagine accessing all your files and media at home from any laptop or desktop computer, anywhere in the world, or sharing this content with friends and family without having to upload. There’s even an iPhone application so you can always “phone home” to get your files! That’s how the website defines the Pogoplug. It’s all that and a then some. I finally have a way to connect files with family without spending ungodly amounts of money. Priced at $129 the Pogoplug is a great investment and is easy to setup. The plastic frame is very durable. The Pogoplug allows you to connect up to 4 drives with its built in USB ports and even more if you use a USB hub. Setup is a breeze if you know how to connect an ethernet port to your router and plug something in. Then you simply go to the website and activate your Pogoplug online. They even have desktop applications that add the Pogoplug to your Finder if your using mac and explorer if your using Windows. They also provide a free iPhone app to take your files on the go. If you’re looking for a cheap solution for sending and sharing files with family, or if you just need to stay connected to your files while you are on the road, Pogoplug is for you! If I could change something about the Pogoplug it would have to be the color. Pink, clear and white make you want to hide this unit in your network array. As someone who tries to keep a black and silver color pattern, this just stands out like a sore thumb. Until next time, Keep it Buzzin’
AKG K272 HD Headphones Review
posted by The Tech Buzz on Jan.15, 2010, under New Products
I’ve been searching for a pair of over the ear headphones for a while and have tried many, many pairs. But had no luck since all the pairs I’ve bought hurt after wearing for long periods of time. I’ve found that they don’t quite fit when you put them on and they press on your ear and after 5 hours (normal shows) my ears would hurt really really bad. Until now. The company AKG was gracious in sending me out the AKG K272 HD headphones and my first initial response after un boxing them was, “Wow these things are light!” In fact they are light and very comfortable. Sound quality is good but the number one thing when searching for headphones for me to use for a show is comfort. The comfort is there as they have velvet housings surrounding the padding that goes over the ear, unlike the other brands where it’s leather. The clarity these headphones have is unbelievable. At first I have to be honest, I thought they can’t be much different than any other headset. When I first put them on, there wasn’t really a “WOW” factor in audio. It wasn’t until I put the old ones back on and other pairs of headphones that I use for different things throughout the day that I really began to appreciate them. The clarity that they bring is unbelievable. The bass response as well as the mids is quite evident. while not sounding tinny with the highs. The durable band made of a polymer type plastic is very flexible with their self adjusting ability. Retailing over the board for $375 these headphones are a win and a must for serious studio workers and broadcasters. Thanks to AKG for providing the best headphones to date. Until next time, Keep it buzzin’
