Hackintosh Wifi

Hey guys, I recently acquired an Acer Aspire One 10.1″ netbook from craigslist on a trade. So naturally those of you out there know me, I hackintoshed it. Now first off I used the distro iDeneb v3 or 10.5.6. After installing this, my sound didn’t work out of the box nor my wifi. That wasn’t a problem. I managed to find the kexts for my sound online. But the wifi was the problem. I searched everywhere and everyone said it’s not going to work with the installed Atheros AR5007 card. I would have to buy a dell mini 9 card to put into it. I said no way. There has to be a way. In fact there was. First off I changed my version number of OS X from 10.5.6 to 10.5.5 using the version.plist file inside Hardrive/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist. I copied it to my desktop. Changed the permissions to read/write on the one in the location. Inside the text file changed to 10.5.5, saved, and over wrote the existing one.

I had to do that because I kept getting a kernal panic when I installed Airport Update 2008-004. (Make sure you download the stand alone version). After installing this you must reboot. After your desktop has been restored. Google on a working computer the kext IO8211Family.kext. There are numerous versions of this kext and this is the only one I found to work. After installing this kext with kext helper, reboot and you will now see a wifi indicator at the top of your bar. You will only be able to activate the airport card but not utilize it. That’s where the next application comes into play. I found a program called KisMac which you need to download and install this particular version HERE I tried other versions but they fail. Anyways, after installing make sure that you open up Kismac and go to preferences within the program and select the driver to use under the driver tab. Use Airport Extreme, Passive mode or Apple Airport, passive mode. Try them both. After selecting the driver. Go to Start Scan. Magically your networks should appear. After you see your network in the list, close out Kismac and when it asks you to save, say YES! Now when you go up to your Airport you will now see your networks and BOOYA!! Your online! Now as a disclaimer this has only been tested on an Acer Aspire One. Feedback is welcomed! Also with Kismac on every boot you have to repeat the sequence of opening kismac seeing your networks, close the program and go to your airport in the top bar. It’s a pain but a small price to pay for wifi! Good Luck! Happy Hackintoshing!

How did you install it with a CD drive or USB drive or hard drive?

I am attempting to do this to my wifes Acer Aspire One. When the boot loader loads it goes through the progress bar really quick and then I get the Apple logo and then the computer reboots and the process starts all over again. Any idea what is going on or what I did wrong?
