Conficker C

posted by The Tech Buzz on Mar.29, 2009, under News

A lot of people are concerned with the April 1st day set trigger date. Especially PC owners. It seems to be the biggest news next to WWDC from Apple. People are preparing themselves for a meltdown. We have seen different reports where it looks like it could be a hoax. Time will tell. Personally I think this is a ploy for scammers to promote products. Maybe activate some sort of malware. Either way if your worried, you can visit Microsoft.com to download a tool that will remove it if you have it on your system. The other way to get rid of it, switch over to a mac. We don’t see the Mac community or Linux community worried…do we? Until next time Keep it Buzzin’

April Fools Day Doom for Windows Users!

posted by The Tech Buzz on Mar.24, 2009, under News

Millions of infected Microsoft Windows PCs face doomsday on April 1; Macintosh unaffected

“A computer-science detective story is playing out on the Internet as security experts try to hunt down a worm called Conficker C and prevent it from damaging millions of computers on April Fool’s Day,” John D. Sutter reports for CNN.

“The anti-worm researchers have banded together in a group they call the Conficker Cabal. Members are searching for the malicious software program’s author and for ways to do damage control if he or she can’t be stopped,” Sutter reports. “The malicious program already is thought to have infected between 5 million and 10 million computers.”

“Those infections haven’t spawned many symptoms, but on April 1 a master computer is scheduled to gain control of these zombie machines, said Don DeBolt, director of threat research for CA, a New York-based IT and software company,” Sutter reports. “What happens on April Fool’s Day is anyone’s guess.”

Sutter reports, “The program could delete all of the files on a person’s computer, use zombie PCs — those controlled by a master — to overwhelm and shut down Web sites or monitor a person’s keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords or bank account information, experts said.”

“DeBolt said Conficker C imbeds itself deep in the computer where it is difficult to track. The program, for instance, stops Windows from conducting automatic updates that could prevent the malware from causing damage,” Sutter reports. “The program’s code is also written to evolve over time and its author appears to be making updates to thwart some of the Conficker Cabal’s attempts to neuter the worm.”

iPhone 3.0 Software

posted by The Tech Buzz on Mar.18, 2009, under News

With just a few days of Apples recent announcement of iPhone 3.0 software, there has been huge controversy on whether or not iPhone 1st generation would be supported. Now I want to put that controversy to rest. If you watched the keynote, and listened to the developers, you would have heard everything will be supported but MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and Stereo Bluetooth. Now for many that’s no big deal. Maybe not even enough to upgrade. But for me, it is. I will be upgrading to the 3G because MMS is huge. Family is always trying to MMS me pictures and audio. So hopefully in the next 2 weeks I will be able to upgrade to the 3G along with my wife’s. Although we still are sticking with the 8GB model. Until next time, Keep it buzzin’
